It was in the last month that China Telecom Europe (CTE) announced that, it is seeking to attract British professionals to subscribe to its soon to be launched mobile network in this territory to take advantage of the UK’s growing business links with Asia.

The telecoms company, is expected to launch soon its first overseas mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) in the UK this quarter. After signing a deal with Everything Everywhere, the company is “looking for opportunities in the commercial market” for British businesses like GDS International to utilise its call packages at Chinese-specific information services.

China is a prospective market for direct marketing. But the drawback about the direct marketers here are they don't make the proper use of the various marketing strategies available to get the right customers for their products. In Direct marketing, particularly direct mailers, how important it is in mature markets to create brand awareness, acquire new customers and grow existing customer value; is not the same with China. Unlike mature markets where mailboxes are cluttered with mailers, residents in China's urban cities only get an average of eight addressed mailers a year as compared to 88 in Europe.

As of China's consumers are concerned, they are interested to get and read the direct mails, if it is addressed in person. Researchers have proved that almost a majority of the recipients have at least glanced through the content in the mail packs they received. Curiosity and good information source were the two key drivers for opening and reading. In mailers providing response channels or purchase offers, up to 23% of recipients have either responded through telephone, online or have purchased or intend to purchase. Unlike consumers in mature markets, it appears that consumers in China are highly receptive and responsive to direct mailers. And, direct marketers like Appco Group Hongkong have always made use of this opportunity to gain maximum customers which have made them strong in any new environment.

As China celebrates the New Year, more hopes up for the Scottish government, as both-'China and Scotland' have an established friendship and business links that reigns at the heart.

First Minister Alex Salmond has sent his greetings to Scotland's Chinese community on the eve of the Chinese New Year of the Dragon. He has expressed that as the country enter into yet another Year of the Dragon, it is not a symbol to be feared but instead one of good luck. He expects that the relationship between the two countries would grow stronger than it was in previous years. The direct selling market in China has started to get very attractive for foreign investors. The number of direct selling licenses is expected to increase from 27 to 30 this year. As the two giant pandas arrive in Edinburgh Zoo, they are going to be the first pairs going to live in UK for 17 years. It took nine hours for the pandas to arrive in Edinburgh from China. And, they were carried in by the 777 aircraft, the "FedEx Panda Express" in a specially designed crate with perspex sides.

The Edinburgh Zoo was in year’s long preparation as an effort to bring the pandas to the zoo. The eight year old pandas are expected to stay at the zoo for at least 10 years. The 10 years are valuable for Scotland, as far as the business and travel relations between both the countries are concerned. Scottish tartans have taken another new design this year to mark the arrival of giant pandas in Edinburgh Zoo before the end of the year. The Scottish Register of Tartans, which approves applications for new patterns, has released details on its website of “The Edinburgh Zoo Panda” design, created to celebrate the arrival of breeding pair Tian Tian and Yangguang.

The main colours are black and white, representing the pandas. There’s also red for China and green to represent bamboo, the animals’ favourite food. Red overchecks in blocks represent the number “3”, which symbolises luck and is similar to the Chinese character for birth. Grey shades convey the gradation of colour from black to white as seen on the pandas’ fur. Edinburgh the historic capital of Scotland, is famous in many aspects such as Canyoning, White Water Rafting and many other adventure activities.

China's demand for Scottish salmon is leaping and is among top position to import seafoods. This leap took place after the country allowed seafood to be sent directly from Scotland.

Data from HM Revenue and Customs revealed 2,347 tonnes of salmon were exported to the world's most populous nation in the first half of 2011. The Far East total for the period was 3,036 tonnes, worth £16m. China is now the fifth largest export destination for Scottish salmon.
